Soil Improvement

Our landscaping installations sometimes begin with reconditioning the hard, nutrient-deficient soil found throughout Middle Tennessee. The reason we start here is pretty simple: For plants, dirt is not just dirt—it’s life, and most Tennessee lawns and gardens don’t give their grass, plants or trees a fighting chance at life. The soil in our region is commonly clay-like, nutrient-deficient, and in desperate shape; newer homes are the worst because builders typically scrape any good soil and sell it during development.

Gardens of Babylon can perform soil sampling in various areas of your yard and garden to determine toxicity (to plant life), pH content (or acidification) and a range of other natural indicators that enable strong and healthy plants. Our natural amendments include:

  • aluminum sulfate
  • compost tea
  • lime
  • milky spore
  • peat
  • many others

Our soil building practices involve only organic amendments to recondition your soil to the technical and healthy biological state necessary for a lifetime of outside beauty for your home. It’s another way you will enjoy the personal, dedicated service of our family-run business knowing we care about your landscape and its place in the local environment and on the earth.
